Carlos Ratt appeared in court today to face 17 charges in connection with a police chase on the weekend that involved an alleged attempted theft in Shell Lake.
A witness called Spiritwood RCMP when they say they saw someone trying to steal a licence plate from a vehicle parked on the street and when when this citizen confronted the suspect, he reportedly pointed a shot gun and then took off in a vehicle headed north out of Shell Lake. RCMP tracked down a suspect and pursued him through the Ahtahkakoop First Nation and Mont Nebo and he surrendered when he headed back to Shellbrook.
The 30 year old is facing numerous weapons charges as well as – among other things – operation of a motor vehicle while being pursued by police and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
Meanwhile RCMP confirm an officer fired one shot from their RCMP firearm. Police say no one was injured and RCMP are investigating to ensure there were no violations of police policy in the discharge of the firearm.
