RCMP divers from Saskatchewan and Manitoba will soon arrive at Peter Pond Lake to hopefully recover the remains of a pilot and passenger who went missing 59 years ago.
The plane flown by Ray Gran disappeared while on its way to La Loche in 1959 and is believed to be resting in the lake after the recent discovery by a private search team.
Rob King of the RCMP says their crew will conduct its own sonar search for the wreckage and potential under water hazards while documenting the area for the investigation by the Transportation Safety Board.
King expects the recovery operation to take several days and says there could be weather related delays or safety concerns that could complicate or even postpone the search.
Gran’s wife died shortly after the wreckage was spotted. She was expecting when her husband went missing.
Conservation Officer Harold Thompson was also on board.
