City Council voted unanimously Monday night to fund two projects, one being a revamp of the landfill. The city will lend $12.8 million dollars to re-organize the city’s landfill which includes building a new waste cell. The existing waste cell is expected to be full by the year 2020. As well, the city will relocate service buildings and create a recovery park for those bringing garbage and recyclable material into the landfill.
The second project is for Friends of the Bowl which is the group developing the new Gordie Howe Sports Complex. The city will give up to 10 million dollars in interim financing to the group to help them complete the project. The project includes a track and field and speed skating oval, ski trails, space for the Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame, two baseball fields, a indoor training facility and batting cages. Friends of the Bowl have agreed to repay the money plus interest to the city by the year 2023.
