It’s my Parting Shot for some Monday Musings…
Canadian Golf history was made yesterday…in Regina of all places, where the golf courses are flatter than the crepes I like to nosh on occasionally at breakfast. No matter, what a performace from Brooke Henderson…winning the C-P Canadian Women’s Open on the L-P-G-A Tour. She’s the first Canadian to win the national open title since 1973. That’s 45 years ago…or to put in context for me, I was 14 years old when Jocelyn Bourassa won the title the first time it was ever played! Now, the gauntlet has been dropped on Canadian males to win the R-B-C Canadian Open on the P-G-A Tour. That drought extends to 65 years next June. No, I wasn’t alive for Pat Fletcher’s victory in 1954!
The Roughriders are on a two-game winning streak, have a 5-and-4 record and are tied for third place in the C-F-L West with Winnipeg, going into the annual home-and-home series with the Blue Bombers. The Green and White aren’t explosive…but they are effective. I’m fine with that…and so should Rider Nation! But, I know many aren’t because they want more offence and aren’t willing to give Chris Jones any credit!
And, a shoutout to Justin Johner and the beautiful, very well-groomed nine-hole layout at Silver Lake…just north of Maidstone. Thanks to Justin, I had a chance to play nine holes…with borrowed clubs and without spiked golf shoes. That didn’t matter, what a fun and pretty little course! Trust me, I’ll be back next year…with my clubs and golf shoes, not that it’ll make much of a difference with my game!!
That’s my Parting Shot, I’m Les Lazaruk…
