They are going from concept to reality. That’s how University of Saskatchewan Chief Athletics Officer Shawn Burt describes progress at Merlis Belsher Place. He says the 27-hundred seat sports facility is between 90-and-95 percent complete. Burt points out the focus now is on fine tuning including finishing the locker rooms and figuring out security in addition to how to get fans in and out of the building once games start in early October. Burt is confident they will be ready to move equipment in by the end of September. Burt envisions Merlis Belsher Place as the crown jewel of campus that will help recruit outstanding athletes to Huskie programs. Burt says the 43-million dollar complex wouldn’t be possible without help from the City of Saskatoon and the hard work several stakeholders including alumni and student athletes.
