A Saskatchewan rural municipality is under official inspection. Earlier this month, the RM of McKillop’s council voted to impose a new base tax and substantially raise the residential mill rate. Government Relations Minister Warren Kaeding says the Province is responding to concerns about the governance and administration of the RM.
In a news release Kaeding describes the scope of the work to be conducted, “The inspection will undertake a high-level look into the general operations of the RM with a focus on the status of voter petitions submitted to the council, any legal actions initiated by and/or against the RM. ”
A final report is expected to be complete next month on September 15th and will be submitted to the Minister Responsible as well as the local RM Council. The RM of McKillop No. 220 is located north of Regina between Regina Beach and Strasbourg.
