As summer continues, the Saskatoon Fire Department would like to remind residents about the responsibilities and expectations when on the river while operating a human or motor powered watercraft.
While on the river, operators are required to have a life jacket or a personal flotation device on board for every person.
Other important things to consider are ensuring that the watercraft is in good condition, that an emergency plan is in place and to closely check weather conditions.
The fire department also reminds people out on the river to ride at a safe speed, keep a safe space from other people out on the river and caring for the environment by properly launching, fueling and loading your watercraft.
Assistant Fire Chief, Wayne Rodger says there hasn’t been many issues with people disobeying the rules while using their water crafts on the river although he says it’s their duty as the fire department to ensure that residents are aware of the rules and regulations when out on the river.
