Even though temperatures were slightly cooler in the central part of the province Saturday compared to Friday, the southern regions didn’t get a break from the record heat. Brad Vrolijk, a lead forecaster with Environment Canada says Moose Jaw was the hot spot in southern Saskatchewan reaching a high of 42.3 degrees Celsius which is a new all-time August record, previously breaking 41.7 degrees which was recorded in 1949. Vrolijk says it’s going to be another hot day in the southeast corner of the province on Sunday.
“Today for them it’s going to be another…in the southeast corner of the province, it’s looking again 40’s look very likely again today with this system that’s moving through.”
As for the smoke in the Saskatoon area, Vrolijk says the wind has pushed the smoke down south. Although as of 12 p.m. Sunday afternoon, an air quality statement remains in effect for Saskatoon.
Saskatoon and area will see below seasonal temperatures over the next two days before temperatures in the high 20’s return on Tuesday.
