Fredericton police have named the two police officers who were killed in this morning’s shooting incident. They were 45-year-old Constable Robb Costello and 43-year-old Sara May Burns. Costello’s common-law partner, Jackie McLean, says she’s still trying to absorb it all. McLean says Costello lived to be a police officer and never worried that something could happen to him on the job. The two civilians who were killed — a man and a woman — have not been identified. Multiple victims are being treated in hospital for injuries. Police said they have a 48-year-old Fredericton man in custody who is being treated for serious injuries.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says his heart goes out to everyone affected by the “awful” news coming out of Fredericton. Trudeau, says the government is following the situation in New Brunswick closely. Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale says all Canadians stand with the two officers who were killed and that he is deeply concerned about what happened. Goodale says Fredericton police are handling the incident with assistance from the RCMP. (The Canadian Press)
