In a recent media interview, lawyer Chris Murphy stated that the RCMP in Saskatchewan interact differently with Indigenous individuals compared to non-Indigenous individuals.
The RCMP in response say the comment doesn’t accurately depict the daily relationships that Saskatchewan RCMP officers and staff have with communities in the province.
They add that they work closely with partners and stakeholders to ensure they’re delivering the best service and that positive relationships between the Saskatchewan RCMP and Indigenous communities continue to be the norm.
Murphy is a lawyer for the family of Colten Boushie, who was fatally shot at a farm outside of Biggar in 2016.
His mother and 2 brothers are suing Gerald Stanley, RCMP members, and the Attorney General.
