A conducted energy weapon, known to some by the brand name ‘taser’, was deployed in the Saskatoon Police Service detention centre on Monday after attempting to disarm an officer.
Around midnight on the 6th, officers in detention were transferring a man in custody from his cell to a separate area where he was to appear before a Justice of the Peace.
Police say that during the transfer, the man lunged at an officer and tried to get his firearm.
There was a brief altercation and a second officer deployed the CEW.
A 31 year old man is charged with assaulting an officer and attempting to disarm an officer.
The deployment of the CEW will be reviewed, as is always the police policy.
