Friday night around 10 p.m., Pelican Narrows RCMP responded to reports of a 13 year old girl who was struck by bullet fragments near Jan Lake during a Ministry of Environment operation to remove bears that were causing problems in the area.
A Conservation Officer discharged a firearm towards the bears which were in a tree.
A member of the public assisted and had also discharged a firearm at one of the bears.
The girl, who was standing a ways away from the scene, was then struck by a ricochet bullet fragment.
She was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
RCMP have seized multiple firearms from the scene and will be investigating the incident along with the Ministry of Environment.
