Saskatchewan communities now have access to a new long-term flood mitigation program.
The Water Security Agency introduced the Emergency Flood Damage Reduction Program in 2011, but that will now transition from emergency flood mitigation to more long-term focus with the Flood Damage Reduction Program.
Minister Responsible for the WSA, Dustin Duncan says shifting away from emergency situations to a permanent, proactive program allows communities to work on long-term solutions, reducing the risk of flooding in the future.
The budget for this year is $1.5-million with proposals being accepted until October 30th.
Eligible projects will be cost-shared 50/50 between the WSA and the applicant.
