The 48th annual Back to Batoche Days celebration will open with the signing of a historic deal.
The Metis Nation of Saskatchewan will endorse the Framework Agreement with the Federal Government.
Metis Nation of Saskatchewan President Glen McCallum will sign the accord with Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Carolyn Bennett.
She will paddle to Batoche in a voyager canoe just before the signing and says it’s an appropriate place for such a historic event to take place.
Memorandums of Understanding will also be signed between the Metis Nation of Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Health Authority as well as the Saskatchewan School Boards Association.
The four day celebration includes traditional activities, entertainment and sporting events.
