With a total of 16 tornadoes touching down in Saskatchewan so far this year, The Canadian Red Cross is reminding you to have a plan in place, should one touch down in your area. Georgiana Schuring with the Red Cross says the best thing to do is to discuss it with your household; where is that safe place in your home that you should go to? She says it should be on the lower level of the building. If you are outside, in a field, enter the ditch if you can’t go indoors or even crouch beside a strong building. And stay away from trees. Schuring says tornadoes mostly touch down in rural areas. She says to be cautious not only for your family but, if you farm, for your livestock as well. She says, if it is safe to do so, open the gates. Schuring says the livestock will get away from bad weather whenever possible.  Schuring also reminds people to pay attention to local media reports.
