Charges have not been laid at this time and the accident yesterday on Highway 16 between Saskatoon and Langham is still under investigation.
RCMP say a semi that hauls gravel, but was empty at the time, rear-ended a small tractor around 9 a.m. Monday morning. Both vehicles were traveling westbound on Highway 16 and the accident happened near the weigh scales.
A 55 year old woman died at the scene and was identified by those in the agriculture industry as Bettina Schuurman of Elmira, Ontario. Her husband Henk is in Saskatoon hospital in serious condition. The semi driver is not hurt.
Henk and Bettina Schuurman were traveling across the country in a tractor to promote Canada’s dairy sector.
Traffic was re-routed until after the supper hour. Warman RCMP were assisted by Saskatoon Police, Corman Park Police and Saskatchewan Highway Patrol.
A GoFundMe page has been established on behalf of the Schuurmans.
