Boundary Dam four and five will not be retrofit for carbon capture storage. Environment Minister Dustin Duncan says low natural gas prices and federal investment are the main factors. Duncan says they may upgrade the Shand power station in Estevan. The eventual retirement of the coal fired units announced today by SaskPower is not expected tor esult in any layoffs for the approximately 40 workers involved.  The leader of the Provincial NDP says the government’s lack of action  on alternative energy will come back to haunt Saskatchewan.

Ryan Meili agrees with SaskPower’s decision not to go ahead with carbon capture storage at Boundary Dam units four and five but feels the Sask Party should be talking with the Federal Government about Saskatchewan’s future with a carbon tax.  Minister Responsible for SaskPower Dustin Duncan says he’s unsure why federal Environment Minister Catherine McKenna is reluctant to sign an equivalency deal with Saskatchewan that has a 40 percent reduction goal for electrical generation.  (with files from CKRM)
