It’s my Parting Shot for my Monday Musings…
Not just because he’s my, “brother from another mother” as he likes to say, but Rod Pedersen has, once again, walked the fine line. It’s not easy to be the play-by-play voice of a team when things don’t go well. The team expects you to be kind and complimentary to them, even when negative stuff abounds. And, the fans expect you to rip the team in general, and individuals in particular, because you have to see what they’re seeing?! Right?!! Go on Rod’s blog and read today’s entry…he finds a way to do both things when it comes to the Saskatchewan Roughriders, without going overboard!
As Pedersen says, it’s great that the Green and White won Thursday’s game over Hamilton going into a bye. However, the Riders are 2-2…all against supposedly-weaker East Division opposition. But, the offence is abysmal…as evidenced by only four offensive touchdowns in four games, compared to three majors scored by the defence. Saskatchewan has only scored more than 20 points in a game twice in six games…pre-season included. And, the Roughriders have yet to have a 100-yard game rushing by a player, a receiver hit 100-yards through the air in a game nor has a quarterback thrown for at least 300 yards! That won’t get it done against the Calgarys, Edmontons and Winnipegs in the next couple of months!!
Back to the notion of the play-by-play guy who follows one team all the time…do you prefer Blue Jay games being called by the professional, call-them-as-he-sees them, broadcasters’ broadcaster Dan Shulman? Or do you like former Toronto catcher Buck Martinez and his over-the-top cheering for fly falls to become home runs? I like Shulman over Buck…what do you think?!
That’s my Parting Shot, I’m Les Lazaruk…
