The topic of equalization continues to be a prominent one for the Saskatchewan Government. Premier Scott Moe is again commenting on the equalization formula. He says with the federal government moving to renew the current system, there’s no better time to have a discussion about a fair formula than now. He says April of 2019 is when the program will take effect for the next five years. Moe says the feds put that plan into its omnibus budget in the spring without notifying the province. He says this is the time to look to improve the current formula, which he calls, flawed. The topic was brought up at the Finance Ministers Meeting this past week by Donna Harpauer. She says, despite support from several other provinces, attempts to discuss formula reform was rebuffed.
