The province issued a news release today indicating the Provincial Capital Commission has requested, three times now, that the Regina Police Service remove the structures, which are tipis, on the Legislature grounds. There are bylaws which prohibit public overnight camping, burning of wood or other combustibles, or just general placement of structures.
The consequence of the un-permitted camp that has sprung up as part of a protest, at the Legislature, is that the Canadian Day Committee in Regina will be moving all activities from the West Lawn to the north side of Wascana Lake on Canada Day.
The PCC Executive Director Carrie Ross says there are bylaws and permits in place to ensure Wascana Park is available for everyone and they are again asking Regina Police to enforce the law.
