The community members from Southend are on their way back home after a week away from an evacuation order which began on Tuesday the 19th.
Not all are going home, though.
Those with health conditions will stay back until it’s safe for them to return.
Deanna Valentine with Emergency Social Services says 893 people registered with 579 in Prince Albert, 68 in Saskatoon, 28 in La Ronge and around 300 people in camps near Reindeer Lake.
There is no firm number at this point as to how many people are staying and how many people are heading home.
The director of wildfire operations for the Ministry of Environment, Scott Wasylenchuk says the Woods Fire which was encroaching on Southend has not grown and the edges of the fire that are nearest the community and the road are contained.
The Woods Fire is one of 53 fires in the province right now, with 303 wildfires to date this year.
The 5 year average is 232.
With lightning over the 24 hour period up to Tuesday morning, there were 13 new starts.
Wasylenchuk says there is rain in the forecast, which will help quite a bit.
The Arthur fire at the McArthur Mine site is a large one at over 79-hundred hectares and the Ministry is working with Cameco mine staff and management.
They have had rain, so Wasylenchuk expects good progress on getting that fire under control over the next few days.
