A new 26-unit rental housing project officially opened yesterday in Saskatoon’s Pleasant Hill neighbourhood for those who have complex needs and aren’t unable to secure and maintain housing without supports.
Minister of Public Safety Ralph Goodale notes that most units in this development are intended for large families, which is urgently needed in the neighbourhood. The name of the development means “New Beginning” in the Plains Cree language and consists of 8 one bedroom town-house units, 10 three bedroom units, 6 four-bedroom units and two four-bedroom accessible units at 1409 21st Street West.
Mayor Charlie Clark says a safe and secure home is of vital importance for a strong quality of life and a life changing milestone for 26 families.
Together, the federal and provincial governments contributed almost $3.2-million to the project. The City contributed $557-thousand, plus additional incentives for the project in the Pleasant Hill neighbourhood and Quint provided about $1.7-million in the form of cash equity and mortgage financing.
