The chief of police says that he believes that the police service will be ready for the new date of October 17th. The date announced by the Liberal government this week for cannabis legalization is three and ahalf month later than the government’s original proposed date of July 1st. Troy Cooper says the extended period of time will allow for more officers to be ready for traffic enforcement and education purposes. Cannabis has been illegal in Canada for nearly 100 years since 1923.
