Yesterday around 5 p.m. police responded to a 911 call of a home invasion in progress in the 100 block of Avenue L South.
Information received by police was that weapons were involved and that two men fled on foot.
A canine track was then initiated.
While in pursuit of tracking the criminals, a canine turned a corner on Avenue M South and latched onto an unrelated 8 year old girl.
The canine was in a harness and on a leash.
The dog released the girl immediately at the command of the officer.
Medical assistance was requested and the girl, accompanied by her mother were taken to hospital for treatment.
Injuries are not life-threatening.
The injuries sustained in the incident will be investigated.
The first suspect is described as approximately 6 foot 3, approximately between 20 and 30 years old with long dark hair worn in a braid with dark facial hair on his chin. He was wearing a black muscle shirt, black shorts, a black hat and sunglasses.
The second suspect is described as shorter than 6 foot 3, shoulder length curly hair and a beard. He was wearing a red hat and a red “Elmo” shirt depicting the Sesame Street character’s face.
