Prince Albert man is facing charges in connection to an incident early Wednesday morning where a police officer and a police dog Daxa were allegedly assaulted.
The Prince Albert Police Service reports that around 2 that morning a police dog team was searching for a man believed to be responsible for 5 arsons in the past 6 hours.
A suspect who matched the description from witnesses was found, but police say he first took off on his bicycle and then later began to run.
When he didn’t surrender, Daxa took after him and the dog was allegedly punched in the head several times.
Daxa and his handler were able to subdue the man, and a knife was found at the scene.
A 19 year old man is facing charges that include assault of a peace officer, carrying a concealed weapon and willfully causing unnecessary pain or injury to a police dog.
