A Saskatchewan police officer traveled to the Philippines last week to testify in court and was also given a chance to meet some of the children he helped.
It was February of 2017 when an the ICE investigation began focusing on Philip Chicoine of Saskatoon, who was found guilty of facilitating child porn by befriending women online and paying for them to abuse children while he watched and recorded it.
the ICE Unit continued to work with the Philippine police to locate any potential victims.
A woman was arrested and nine child victims were rescued, two boys and seven girls.
Cpl. Jared Clark provided expert testimony at her trial, which is ongoing.
Clark says the woman’s husband was also recently charged, so his testimony can be used in that court case as well.
While he was there, Clark and the RCMP Liaison Officer responsible for the Philippines, Sgt. Jay Schooley, visited the shelter where the children were living and were able to bring treats and toys and see smiles on their faces, where once he had seen the complete opposite.
With three children that were rescued in Romania and three more rescued from a second investigation in the Philippines, there were 15 children in total taken out of harm’s way.
