One of the most hotly debated policies in the country made it’s way into the classroom Monday afternoon. The carbon tax was the topic of discussion at a Congress 2018 forum at the University of Regina campus. Researcher Brett Dolter says having a carbon tax in this province is worth considering. He says there is a common misconception about where the money from it goes and how its used. He says it all goes to the government and can be used for other purposes. One of the speakers, Garrett Richards, says it’s important to analyzing people’s wording of their position on the issue for a clearer picture of it. He says different actor have different interests and you have to be able to look past the rhetoric or strategies to get a better sense of what is really going on. Richards says studying an issue like the carbon tax objectively can be difficult, so it’s important to look at a variety of perspectives and consider the variety of interests.
