SGI says 4,873 drivers were caught speeding last month in Saskatchewan. Police also issued 516 tickets for distracted driving and the vast majority were for cellphone use. There were 269 people pulled over for impaired driving and 323 tickets issued for seat belts or child car seats.
On May 1st, the base fine for speeding tickets jumped $30 while the kilometre-per-hour charge for driving faster than the posted speed limit, doubled. That means if you’re caught 20 km/h over the speed limit in a regular street or highway the total fine is $190 but even more for a school zone or construction zone.
