The NatureCity Festival is a chance to reflect on and appreciate what Saskatoon has within its boundaries, from the protected grasslands of the Northeast Swale, to restored wetlands, the Meewasin Valley Trail, the river and the Sutherland migratory bird sanctuary which is part of the Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park and Zoo. The group Wild About Saskatoon hosts the festival each year with a keynote speaker, and then all the other nature and wildlife themed organizations fill in the calendar for the week with various events that include geo-cache hunts, guided tours, performances, gardening-related events and a moveable feast by bicycle. Festival spokesperson, Candace Savage, says the keynote speaker is Harvey Locke, who is a global ally for parks, wilderness, wildlife and large landscape conservation. He will be speaking at Castle Theatre on Friday night, followed by a panel of local experts that will discuss ways that Locke’s ideas can be applied in Saskatoon. The NatureCity Festival begins today (Tues) and runs through Saturday. For the full calendar:
