I hauled the golf clubs out of the shed this week. There they sit, all primed and ready for the first round of the year. I wonder if there’s any muscle memory left over from last year? I love the game for the exercise, fresh air and camaraderie with my playing partners. I’ve convinced myself that however many strokes it takes to motivate the ball into the hole on the green is irrelevant. I do score the odd lucky par on a par 3, more often a bogey. Double bogeys on par 4’s are the norm as are triple bogey’s on par 5’s. After a snowball, 8 strokes on a hole, my partners usually tell me to pick up before I end up with a quintuple or even a sextuple. Seven over par would be a throwuple, eight would be a blowuple and nine an oshutuple. I get jealous when I’m with a good golfer who can do an up and down, holing out from off the green in two strokes, a pitch and a putt. In my case it’s more common to go up, across, beyond, next to, around and down, or else up, way over, under, into, through, along, onto, beside, and down. I’ll see if I can find anyone who wants to play with me and book a tee time this long weekend. I’ll try to keep in mind the game is about the 90-10 rule. Golf is 90% mental and the other 10% is all in your head.
That’s Coffeetalk. I’m Vic Dubois.
