The Water Security Agency has issued a “Do Not Use” notice for the water supply at the new Costco on Saskatoon’s south side.
The City’s acting General Manager of Transportation and Utilities says hydrocarbons were detected in 3 hydrants on the line that supplies Costco.
Angela Gardiner explains they were expanding their testing from where hydrocarbons were originally found in Aspen Ridge and that’s when this was discovered.
She says they have no answers at this point as to why the hydrocarbons have contaminated these hydrants or the ones in Aspen Ridge, but they are working on it.
The City hopes to find commonalities from the two sources to come up with a common answer.
In the meantime, Gardiner says Costco is working on a water supply and the City will do anything they can to help with that.
When there are hydrocarbons found in the water, it can’t be used for personal contact..
It was back in January when the WSA issued a “Do Not Use” notice affecting 10 homes in the Aspen Ridge neighbourhood
