Saskatchewan’s Justice Ministry has intervenor status in the pipeline reference case before the British Columbia Court of Appeal.
B.C. is asking whether it has the jurisdiction over the Trans Mountain expansion project.
The province argues that it is defending its coast from a major oil spill.
Saskatchewan, along with Alberta and the federal government say this is federal jurisdiction and the province shouldn’t be able to continue to delay the twinning of the pipeline.
Justice Minister Don Morgan says last year, Saskatchewan was a part of a similar case involving the city of Burnaby which had delayed the issuing of permits to Trans Mountain because it wasn’t complying with two bylaws.
The National Energy Board sided with the pipeline.
