The amount of home construction in Saskatchewan isn’t what it was a few years back, but it is starting to stabilize.
A report from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation says housing starts had been elevated in Regina but they are slowing down, and in Saskatoon the market has been relatively stable, although starts on new home construction are continuing to decline.
Senior Market Analyst, Goodson Mwale, says the forecast for the province is for housing starts to stabilize by the end of this year.
Conditions are improving in the labour market and the GDP numbers are stronger, which means a recovery from the economic downturn.
The demographics are strong, Mwale says, and the downward trend in housing starts has been to make up for the large number of homes on the market, which is now stabilizing.
