Know the risks, make a plan, and get an emergency kit. That’s the message for Emergency Preparedness Week.
Saskatoon’s Director of Emergency Planning, Pamela Goulden-McLeod says in Saskatchewan, the risks are more apt to be weather-related, like floods, wildfires, or tornadoes.
If something were to happen, you should have an emergency kit that can carry you through the first 72 hours because first responders will be busy trying to get the infrastructure back up and running.
All the things you need are available by clicking on this link.
That’s also where you will find information on the city’s alert system called notifynow.
There will be a test alert on Thursday at 6 for those that have signed up and those in the phone book.
You don’t have to sign up for the new, federally regulated Canada Alert Ready system.
Each province’s emergency team organizes this one with the first alerts tested in Quebec and Ontario on Monday and the rest of the provinces scheduled for 1:55 tomorrow (Wed) afternoon through radio and television, text message and through the SaskAlert app.
