A man tried to set himself on fire after being pursued by police on Saturday night.
Just before midnight that night, Warman RCMP were alerted by Saskatoon Police that a vehicle was being driven erratically and drove out of the city on Highway 16.
The vehicle, which was later found out to be stolen, was speeding and posing a danger.
The Saskatoon Police plane helped the RCMP to track the vehicle’s movements.
Using a spike belt didn’t stop the vehicle, which ended up in a farmyard north of Langham where police says the driver tried to steal some gas and then rammed an RCMP vehicle before escaping the yard.
The suspect vehicle became stuck in a field and the driver, who was the lone occupant, got out and poured gas on himself and the vehicle and set himself on fire.
Officers used a fire extinguisher and the 37 year old received only minor injuries although the vehicle was destroyed.
Terrance Morin is facing charges that include failure to stop for a police officer, arson, and assault on a police officer.
