People turned in 122 firearms and about 500 rounds of ammunition to Saskatoon City Police during the province-wide gun amnesty that was held between March 29th and April 27th. Most of the firearms were rifles, shotguns, prohibited weapons, handguns, and pellet or BB guns. The plan behind the amnesty was to lower the risk of violent offences involving firearms by safely collection and disposing of firearms that may otherwise be taken during a break-in or through accidental loss.
