One of the ways to spread awareness and take action against domestic violence is to keep talking about it. It’s what NDP MLA Nicole Sarauer said following Question Period Monday. She says by consistently engaging in a productive conversation, a broader audience will be informed about this issue and people affected by violence will feel more comfortable seeking help. Sarauer’s comments came in light of the Walk A Mile In Her Shoes initiative, which saw members tossing on a pair of high heels to raise awareness about domestic violence. From the government’s side, Justice Minister Don Morgan said in March the government is working to make sure they are aiding domestic violence victims now and into the future. He says the government has legislation coming forward that would allow a victim of domestic violence to break a residential lease.
