Concern about the lower graduation rates for First Nation students as compared to the rest of the province was brought up by the education critic in the Saskatchewan Legislature on Tuesday.
Trent Wotherspoon pointed to the annual report from the Advocate for Children and Youth which cites graduation at 43 per cent for Indigenous students as opposed to 85 per cent for non-Indigenous students.
The government has said they support closing the funding gap for on-reserve students but Wotherspoon wants to know when that support will be forthcoming.
Education minister Gordon Wyant says graduation rates for first nation students are improving and he is pushing Ottawa to provide more funding for on-reserve schools. (CKRM)
