Alexis Lafreniere’s overtime goal, on a power play, gave Canada a 3-2 victory over Sweden in the battle of unbeaten teams at the World Under-18 Championship in Russia.
The victory means Canada finishes first in Pool A and will play the Pool B fourth place finishers, the Czech Republic, in quarter-final action on Thursday. Saskatoon Blades’ centre Chase Wouters (pictured) gave the Canadians a 2-1 lead just over eight minutes into the third period, only to have the Swedes force extra time with a man advantage score coming with just 94 seconds remaining in regulation time.
