There used to be more pomp and circumstance to the official announcement of the beginning of Meewasin’s Spring Clean Up campaign, but this year for the first time in 38 years because of economic challenges, there is no lead sponsor. Nonetheless, the campaign goes on.
Meewasin Valley Authority spokesperson Doug Porteous says the Clean Up officially begins tomorrow on Earth Day.
The snow has melted just in time to reveal what is underneath, and the MVA is hoping individuals, families, community groups, companies and corporations will take part and pick up a garbage bag to spiff up the river valley.
Porteous adds that local parks or school grounds are also a part of the clean up campaign.
Loraas Disposal has donated six dumpsters which are located throughout the trail for the garbage you have picked up.
Registration isn’t required for the clean up, but companies and corporations participating can register for, or be assigned to an area of the river valley by calling the Meewasin Valley Authority.
The Clean Up campaign continues until May 19th.
Last year 30-thousand people helped to clean up Saskatoon’s river valley.
