19 year old Tristan Pinder of Elk Point, Alberta and 30 year old Verena Petruka of Melville, Saskatchewan are facing numerous charges after a stolen vehicle from Regina was spotted on the Yellowhead and the ensuing chase resulted in officers being fired upon. Around 11:30 Saturday morning Maidstone RCMP got wind of a stolen taxi cab van – after a theft from a gas station in Lashburn – that matched the description of an alleged robbery and assault with a weapon in Regina from the day before.
When RCMP tried to pull the vehicle over it didn’t stop so they followed it out down Highway 16. When it did pull over west of Delmas, police say a gun was fired and RCMP fired back. Then a police cruiser rammed the van which is when it got stuck in the ditch. Officers say a gun was pointed from the vehicle and RCMP again fired on the van. With the help of a Canine service member, a man and woman were arrested at the scene. No RCMP officers were injured and the only injuries suffered by the suspects were minor and in conjunction with being arrested by the police dog. Charges range from Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000 to Flight from Police as well as Discharge Firearm with Intent.
