Facts to date:
- At 5 pm Friday the RCMP were made aware of a collision between a tractor trailer and a bus.
- RCMP know the tractor trailer was west bound on Highway 335 and the Humboldt Broncos team bus was northbound on Highway 35.
- There were 29 people on the bus; 14 were originally reported deceased and 15 injured with some critical.
- The number of deceased rose to 15 following the death of another person in hospital.
- RCMP say it is going to be a lengthy investigation with a lot of evidence. They say they will look at road and weather conditions as well as possible mechanical errors.
- RCMP have confirmed the driver of the semi tractor trailer survived the crash with no injuries.
- The Mayor of Humboldt said he had heard from the Prime Minister who in turn had heard from leaders from around the world including the president of the United States who tweeted his condolences.
- Bill Chow, president of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, says the league does not yet have a decision about whether or how the rest of the season will proceed.
- The crash killed Humboldt Broncos head coach Darcy Haugan, Assistant Coach Mark Cross, team captain Logan Schatz, top forward Jaxon Joseph, defenseman Stephen Wack, Parker Tobin of Stony Plain, Logan Hunter, Conner Lukan of Slave Lake, Adam Herold, Forward Evan Thomas of Saskatoon, the team’s volunteer statistician Brody Hinz, the team’s play-by-play radio announcer Tyler Bieber, and bus driver Glen Doerksen of Charlie’s Charters.
- The names of others killed have not been confirmed.
- Saskatoon City Councillor Bev Dubois urges Saskatchewan residents to give blood.
- Flags at Saskatoon City facilities are flying at half mast in honour of the Humboldt Broncos and those on that bus who were killed in this tragic crash.
- The team had been scheduled to continue its playoff series at the Elgar Petersen Arena tonight but instead the arena will host a vigil
