Native prairie and parkland are among the fastest disappearing wildlife habitats worldwide, and it’s happening quicker than it has ever happened before.
That’s where the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation comes in with its new Adopt an Acre program.
Spokesperson Darren Newberry, says their goal is to secure 100-thousand acres of habitat land for Saskatchewan’s wildlife in the next ten years.
Right now, the SWF has about 68-thousand acres all across the province.
For $50 an acre per year, you can adopt an acre or more, for one or more years.
The land provides a home for species at risk and means leaving some natural space for the next generation.
The money will go directly toward habitat securement for wildlife with dollars being matched by funding through the Fish and Wildlife Development Fund.
