Saskatchewan feeder cattle prices dropped in all weight categories last week.
Canfax reports average feeder steer and heifer prices fell by about $6 per hundredweight. Lighter steers and heifers recorded the largest declines.
Steers in the 600 to 700 pound range sold for an average price of $200.67 per hundredweight, down $4.71 from the previous week.
One factor impacting the market is persistent dry conditions in the U.S. Plains States. It has reduced winter grazing on pastures and forced more cattle into feedlots.
Prices for liveweight, non-fed cattle in Alberta were higher last week. The price of D1,2 slaughter cows increased $2.37 to average $92.75 per hundredweight. D3 cows were up 92 cents to average $80.59 per hundredweight.
