Prince Albert and area is moving toward creating a healthier community with its Community Alcohol Strategy and a new website to promote it and bring awareness and education.
A spokesperson with the Community Alcohol Strategy Steering Committee says alcohol is having a huge impact on Prince Albert with 45 per cent of all arrests being for public intoxication, compared to 22 per cent in Regina and 17 per cent in Saskatoon.
Over 3 years, $2.5-million dollars of the Prince Albert Police budget was dedicated to the arrest and lodging of people who were intoxicated, so it’s an economic cost as well as a social services cost, health cost, and then also an emotional cost for individuals and families.
Adamko says CASSC’s 3 main priorities are promoting family-friendly events and activities, safe and responsible consumption and highlighting access to support and treatment.
