The switch from a Komodo dragon habitat to a meerkat home included the artistic talents of students from Georges Vanier Catholic Fine Arts School who created cut-out displays to highlight the new Meerkat House at Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park and Zoo.
Zoo Manager Tim Sinclair-Smith says he realizes the meerkats with their cuteness factor and level of activity are pretty much the complete opposite of the Komodo dragons, which were previously housed in that habitat, but ultimately they want to connect people with nature. Sinclair-Smith says the exhibit consists of two meerkat “mobs” for a total of 10 meerkats and they do remain separated. You can check out the meerkat family in their new permanent home when the exhibit officially opens to the public on Sunday.
