G3 Canada has announced plans to build two more elevators—one at Maidstone in northwest Saskatchewan and the other at Wetaskawin, about 70 kilometres south of Edmonton.
The Wetaskawin primary elevator will be the first one for G3 in Alberta.
The facilities will be very similar to others that have been built or are currently under construction in Saskatchewan.
They will have 42,000 tonnes ofstorage capacity and a loop track system to load trains quickly. The Maidstone elevator will be served by CN and Wetaskawin by CP.
Construction will begin next month and the elevators are slated for completion prior to the 2019 harvest.
There are also two G3 Canada elevators being built seven kilometres west of Saskatoon and five kilometres north of Melville. Both are in the latter stages of construction and should be ready to accept grain this summer.
