It’s my Parting Shot for my Monday Musings…
I read on Twitter following yesterday’s 41-28 New England victory over the L-A Chargers a post in which someone wondered, “I can’t believe so many people actually thought the L-A Chargers had a chance.” In my case, I really thought the Chargers’ defence was better than what it showed and I was hoping that Phillip Rivers and Antonio Gates would retire after this season as champs. For many others, they wanted the Chargers to win just so that the Patriots would lose. Many people have had enough of Bill Belichik, Tom Brady, etcetera. After all, they’re making their eighth straight appearance in the A-F-C championship game!
Start the watch until Randy Carlyle is axed as head coach of the Anaheim Ducks…especially now that team president Bob Murray has said publicly that he isn’t thinking about a coaching change. I’m sure that once he does think about the Ducks having lost 11 straight N-H-L contests, pushing them outside of a Western Conference playoff spot, Carlyle will be out the door!
And, the time has come…in fact, it’s long overdue…for the Western Hockey League and the owners of the ICE franchise to come clean and announce that the team is moving from Kootenay to Winnipeg for next season! It’s a cruel joke to dangle even a smidge of a hope that the W-H-L team will stay in front of the Cranbrook and area populace. My buddy in Kamloops, Gregg Drinnan on his Taking Note blog, calls it the Kootenay Kountdown…and it’s Day 26 today! People around the league snicker and speak in code about the inevitable. Rip away the band-aid, tell the truth about the situation, and let the franchise honour their greats from the last 20 years with some dignity already!
That’s my Parting Shot, I’m Les Lazaruk…
