Saskatchewan’s Government Relations Minister has ordered an immediate inspection of the northern village of Pinehouse.
The government says the inspection will focus on the village’s practices related to Saskatchewan’s Local Authority Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. The independent review, conducted by lawyer Neil Robertson, will – according to a government news release also “provide an overview of the village’s general operations and business activities and provide a high-level summary of the village’s financial situation and obligations.”
Another inspection took place this year and that was in the Rural Municipality of McKillop. Retired rural administrator Vern Palmer was appointed by the provincial government to supervise the operations at the RM. Taxpayers in that rural muncipality, 80 kilometres north of Regina, had threatened to launch a tax revolt saying taxes more than doubled last summer because council spending was out of control.
Neil Robertson’s report on the Village of Pinehouse is expected March 15th of next year.
