Now past the age of 80 Harold Empey still works to better this province. His volunteerism began as a volunteer firefighter in the 1950’s and over the years he has also embraced Scouting, the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, and in recent times developed a “Just in Case” binder in honour of his late wife and son. This is a resource to educate and guide people through advance planning, when required to act on someone’s behalf in case of emergency, incapacity or death. He has sold over 12,000 binders, held countless free information sessions and raised over 2 hundred thousand dollars for charity.
Canada Volunteer Awards honoured Harold Empey of Saskatoon with national recognition – the Therese (tuh-ress) Casgrain Lifelong Achievment Award. As well, Kaleb Dahlgren of Saskatoon, one of the 13 young hockey players who survived the April Humboldt Broncos bus crash, was recognized with the Emerging Leader for the Prairies Award.
